McDonald’s is being sued over a hot coffee spill — again.

McDonald’s finds itself facing another hot-coffee personal injury lawsuit after Mabel Childress, 84, claims that the restaurant failed to fully secure the lid to her coffee, resulting in Childress receiving severe burns on the lower half of her body.

The suit claims that Childress requested help from employees at the McDonald’s location, who “refused” to assist her, as well as claiming the McDonald’s location caused physical pain and emotional distress, alongside other damages.

According to franchise owner, Peter Ou, employees on site came to her aid immediately after notified of the spill.

This is a situation similar to that of the 1994 Liebeck v. McDonald’s case, where Stella Liebeck, 79, was granted $2.7 million in punitive damages and $200,000 for third-degree burns from a coffee spill in the McDonald’s drive through. This case became wildly sensationalized, with the most recent documentary about the case “Hot Coffee” airing in 2011.
